The Tootherus is a very good example of how much evolution can lose the overview of things. The Tootherus belonged to the Groundsniffers, a species that possesses the ability to sniff more or less deep into the soil. An average Tootherus can sniff easily 3-4 meters deep.
Since it turned out that it was exhausting to excavate the in the soil buried edible things, evolution decided more out of compassion than anything else to grow the Tootherus some teeth. But maybe evolution overdid it. Within a few decades evolution modified the genetic code of the Tootherus in such a
manner that they began growing enormous teeth. The only bad thing about that was the Tootherus could now excavate their meal but it was no longer able to eat it since its mouth consisted practically only of teeth. Again evolution reacted. After several generations of Tootherus hungered they finally managed to pick up their meals by their tails.
The Breggel discovered sometime later that the extra large teeth are perfectly suitable for making holes in the soil for stage posts. Today at least 4 Tootherus participate in each party-setup.
